The Kuen Kuit is a time-honored tradition of Wing Chun with quaint-- often poetic-- sayings that contain important information like "The Fist comes from the Heart."
These are sayings coined on the Blue Mats by Blue Lantern students and instructors.
It doesn't matter how fast you are if you are sloppy and not delivering the proper technique with the appropriate power. This was said by Sifu Griffith's Sihing, Sifu Joshua Barfelz during a visit to the school.
This was said by our leadership student, Clementine, in response to something Sifu Griffith said during an intense class emphasizing the importance of the basics learned in White & Yellow sashes and establishing the foundation that everything else is built. Without a solid foundation the darker sashes lose their meaning and relevance.
Perhaps an older quote and likely not unique to Wing Chun, this was said by Sifu Paul Mason, Sifu Griffith's Sihing, as a way to keep that open-minded attitude and always be willing to learn. A know-it-all is the worst martial artist.
This saying is is from a life lesson taught by my Sifu, Master John Lambert. It's attributed to a situation where a man threatened to "beat his a**", and this is what Master lamber said back to him. It' about not starting a fight if you don't have the skills to finish. Or in other words, boasting with nothing to back it up.
In Shaolin Wing Chun, the "36 Shaolin Methods" are a series of six categories of techniques with six individual techniques within that are learned for the White Sash and are practiced at the beginning of class by everyone. Among those are the Six Basic Footwork which include longer techniques called "Hop, Skip and Jump." This saying was coined by Blue Lantern student Manish Gupta.
This was said by Blue Lantern student Clementine Farrell on a night of intense lahp sau progression training. It's one of those IYKYK situations.
Another possibly older saying, this was said by Sifu Griffith when discussing boasting and bragging about your skills.
